cropped-canze-icon-shading.pngCanZE is an Android App that allows you to read out some useful information out of your Renault ZOE that you cannot access using the on-board computer or display.

It uses either some custom hardware or an ELM327 Bluetooth dongle to interface the CAN-bus of the car an retrieve or request every information from there.Screenshot_2015-11-01-12-34-05[1]

The app is displaying information as gauges, bar charts or text. Ever wondered if the batteries were too hot to charge?

Here is a video of an outdated version of the app in action:

Is the WiFi support on they way?

Is new ZOE 40kw model supported by the app?

    • Jeroen Meijer says:

Yes, though there are some issues reported with faulty data. The battery prediction model for the ’90 models is incorrect.

Hi guys, nice job with the app!

Do you happen to know what standard the CAN on the ZOE uses?

    • Jeroen Meijer says:

Well only now I see your comment, so probably way, way too late. Not sure what you were after, as that question can be interpreted on many (OSI 😉 ) layers. On the physical layer, the main CANbus is 500 kb/s 11 bit id. For the higher layers let me refer you to the source code. Have a look at the Actors/Fields.java code.

    have you seen this? https://www.telekom.de/unterwegs/telekom/telekom-carconnect-adapter
It would be nice to know which ELM is inside. 😀
What do you think, should I try it 😉

    • Jeroen Meijer says:

Sorry for the late reply Stefan. That thing will 99% certainly not work with CanZE, and probably even not work at all on ZOE or any EV.

Does it work with a twizy Alex

  6. I have the new 41 kWh battery installed in my Q210.
What car I need select now? Q210, Q40?

I bought the basic ZOE with almost nothing in! On the board, there is just the basic radio and MP3 player, no large display. Do the CanZE would work with this ZOE model ?
    Thank you

Where do I find the OBD CONTACT in my Zoe

Does it work also for a Renault TWIZY?

Thanks for your hard work. I have a new zoe with 40kwh battery, can I help you with display photos from the app?

Apologies if this is the wrong place to make this enquiry – I am new to this game. I have a 40 kWh ZOE, and on advice of another owner, purchased a KONNWEI KW902 dongle to use with CanZE. I couldn’t make it work, so visited the other guy to try the my dongle in my ZOE with his Android phone. We couldn’t make it work – the bluetooth connection dropped out within seconds of connecting. So we tried his dongle in my ZOE with both his phone and mine – it worked every time. Conclusion – my dongle is the problem. Labeling on the dongles is a little different – mine has “BT 3.0” on the bottom right, his is an older model (I think) and has “Bluetooth” in that location.

Any hints would be appreciated. even if it is only to refer me to the appropriate part of this or any other website.

Now, all this is very uncool. The problem is, that some of the ELM chips report wrong versions while not others report the correct version but newer once changed the way they work, so they are not compatible with CanZE.

CanZE needs a dongle that can establish a serial BT connection. Newer models seam to have dropped this an only use the news beacon based system, which is not implemented in CanZE.
