Dongle

In order to fetch data from your car, a dongle is required. The Apple iOS CanZE app uses a WiFi-connection with a WiFi dongle through the ODB connection of your car. More info about this dongle under “Hardware”.

ODB connector

You can find the ODB-connector somewhere in the dash of your car. Renault ZOE’s have their ODB-connector in the little storage compartment where you find your SD-slot, USB- and AUX-connector. Remove the lid on the bottom that covers the ODB-connector and plug the dongle in.

Set up a WiFi connection

First set up a WiFi connection between the dongle and your iOS-device. When the dongle is plugged in, you will find a network that is linked to your dongle in the iOS “WiFi Settings” screen (don’t use the CanZE App yet). Click this network to make a connection. A request for a password is prompted.

On this very moment a warning is necessary; most dongles use very simple and widely known passwords, e.g. “12345678”. Be aware that the connection to this dongle will not be protected very well as long as you use this password. Changing that password is not possible or very difficult, most of the times. It is therefore recommended to remove your dongle from the connector after use.

After submitting the password, a connection is made. CanZE for iOS prefers a static IP-adress. The preferred WiFi setting are submitted in the “CanZE Settings” screen. This connection and it’s parameters will be remembered for further uses.

Router and DNS must be set as well:

  • Router IP is 192.168.0.10
  • DNS IP is 192.168.0.10

Set up a connection between CanZE and the dongle

Start up the CanZE app, most likely the app will make the connection right away. When this is not the case, swipe or click to the “CanZE Settings” screen. The option “Try to find WiFi dongle” will search for your dongle under IP-adres xxx.yyy.zzz.n (where xxx.yyy.zzz. is the part of the IP adress you entered in the iOS “WiFi settings” screen and n is a query from 0 to 255) and make the connection.

Several other settings can be found in this “CanZE settings” screen. To get started, at least make the settings for your car. “Automatic connection” is recommended to be on. The preferred WiFi settings can be found here.

When ready, swipe tot the left to the “CanZE Start” screen. When no connection is made yet, a little red exclamation mark is in the top right WiFi icon. By clicking the “Connect to WiFi dongle” button, a connection will be made. You can swipe to the left again to start the CanZE screen of your choice.
